A pretty amazing profile shot, using my left hand.
I wanted to capture the boo boo on my nose that was a result of a very low blood sugar on Sunday night. I ended up under the bed with my nose and also my collar bone rubbing up against the box spring. I sort of came out of the low by feeling my nose rubbing up against the metal of the box spring. I have a larger scrap on my clavicle.
Not my finest moment, but Andrew had disconnected the pump and had tried to give me sugar. We are afraid of the glycogon thing and so far time has pulled me out of a lot of low blood sugars at night.
The boo boo has been looking uglier each day, but it is healing. Nothing can be done about the size of my nose. I can live with it and it is prominent in many self portraits.

Well, I learned a lesson about juice boxes this morning at about 4 AM. I was really low, sweating and really unable to move. I pulled out the infusion site and flipped around to reach for a juice box. There was no straw, so I bit into the box and got some juice.
Then I still couldn't walk, so I crawled into the kitchen to get more juice and I got the Juicy Juice box out of the fridge, but I could not get the straw opened. Finally, I was able to drink the Minute Maid juice. I got better quickly, reinserted a new set, changed the sheets and slept for another hour, then got up and went for a swim.
This was really scary, and now I have a juice with the straw plastic already opened right near the bed. Since this was a surprising low, I will try to get up to test in the early morning.

I have the "I Got To Make A Change Blues" by Memphis Minnie on my mind this morning.
Low of 42 and I don't feel it at all. Amazing, I change the infusion site and refill and reload the cartridge with no problem at all. It sort of scares me when I can fully function with that kind of low.
Except, I realize that I can't fully function because whatever brain power that would make me reach for those glucose tabs is not working.

Glucose tabs - there's a bottle of them in my glove compartment, in the bedside table, in my work bag, stashed in my desk drawer, and for some reason I feel compelled to have a supply in the bathroom closet.
Personally, I like the white ones best. :)

I was in a hurry to buy some juice for the house, so I snagged the closest ream of cheapy juice boxes I could find. Boppin' Strawberry Hi-C.
Now everytime I open the fridge, I feel like a seven year old lives in my house.

I was doing laundry on Sunday, which tends to make me go low. I found this little pack of Jelly Belly in the bag I have on my laundry cart. 10g, tasty, easily portable. I wish I could remember where I got this!

I found these in CVS. They do sort of taste like butterscotch but overall they're still too tangy. Not bad, and I would buy them again if I found a large bottle.

Whew, the Painted Furniture Workshop ended at 5 pm and we are in clean up mode. I did not eat enough lunch and I am now a bit low.
Good thing I came home to a plate of chocolate chip cookies! Yeah Andrew!

I can see the downward trend that started from when I left the house for work and caused Dex to start beeeeeeping after I'd just finished my first cup of coffee this morning. I tested to confirm this low and saw a 50 mg/dl winking up at me from my meter.
Even though it's a pain in the arse to wear this thing for days on end, it does do its job. It hollers when I'm high and warns me when I'm low. And for someone like me, all wound up with different thoughts and tasks these days, that reminder can be helpful. (Yes, some day it can drive me batty, too, but it all evens out in the end.)
Thanks, Dex, for catching this one before it spiraled away from me.

Darn It! We ate that fabulous dinner an hour earlier than usual.
I think the slightly off schedule messed up my BS. At woke up at 1:45 with a BS of 38. My infusion site was sort of ripped out, so I had to get myself together and change the site.
There is blood in the cannula and the site was quite swollen, so maybe it was really for the best.

Last night I had a low and all I had left in my fridge was a half-empty bottle of orange juice from work. I also ate some honey, which is my emergency back-up if I forget to buy juice at the store (I don't typically like to use honey because it's hard to get out of the bottle, but I think glucose tabs are evil).
Since it was right before bed, I just tossed the bottle on the floor. And it's still there...

Despite the fact I am 22 years old, my treatment of choice for a low blood sugar is a 6 oz. box of juice. No matter what my blood sugar is, the carbs are enough to bring me up to the low 100s.
Assuming I don't go crazy in the kitchen.

Yes, it's candy corn, from Halloween.
I was saving it for some reason and Andrew said you know this might go bad...I really doubted that, but there was no reason to save it, so I put it in the cupboard with gels and glucose tabs and stuff.
I had a lot of lows today, spent about 8 hrs trying to keep above 70, hit 33 at 8:45 am and 38 at 7:20 pm.
Finally the candy corn boosted me way way up, I think it tasted pretty good, but I couldn't tell you for sure.
Now I hope to get into range.

Dinner tonight was the Brown Rice Rainbow Roll and about 12 ounces of Chinese Stir fry vegetables with added garlic.
This is a great healthy dinner. Almost fat free, except for the avocado. The 16 oz bag of vegetables only has 100 cal.
I am having some BS issues though. Before the meal, I felt low and tested at 77, so even though I would normally bolus for 40 gr. of carb, I did not. Instead, I ate, washed dishes and walked Suka, tested again and I am at 76...
This might be one of those wait and see nights...wait and see my blood sugar get really high...
Goodnight, I am going to test right now.
Love & Peace

This was 5:14 a.m. Ugh! A school day, too. It's yesterday's picture, but it will have to do. The batteries in my camera died today. I went in search of more all around the house, but no such luck. I'll have to get some tomorrow. I put the chargeable batteries in the battery charger and left them in for the required hour. Then I put the batteries in the camera. A little message popped up. It said, "recharge the batteries." (throwing hands up in the air) I give up!

At work, I treat my low blood sugar reactions with Minute Maid cran-raspberry juice. From the can. So it has that very sweet, sort of metallic taste. Usually, the can sits around for at least a week because I only drink half of it, and sometimes I take a second hit from it if I'm low-ish a few days later.
Re-reading that, I now realize that I have disgusting juice habits and need to clean out my office.

This morning I felt low and my hands were really cold and weird looking.
Once I found a finger that would bleed, I tested and was at 48!
For this photo, I had already eaten a few glucose tabs, so my BS is on the rise, but my fingers are still looking bad.
Big reminder to myself to by a bulb for the lava lamp. Instant hand warmer!

It's about 12:30 pm and I have had the basal turned off for about an hour. I ate a banana as a snack, but I am still low. 6 glucose tabs will help. The weird thing about lows at work is that I can still function really well. I would like to say that I become even more hyper-aware of the details of the work I am doing, but it would be a mistake to accept the low as a norm.
This is a week that I switch to the #2 basal settting which is much less insulin than usual, but I think I need to tweek #2 basal down some more.
A note on the photo: My friend Linwood (durhamoose) has suggested some new ways of taking self portriats. You will see more of his tricks in the future.
